NORWALK, Conn. — The wait is almost over for city residents anxious for another grocery shopping option.
Wegman’s, the New York-based supermarket chain with over 100 locations in eight states and the District of Columbia, will open its first Connecticut location in Norwalk July 23, according to the company.
With the opening date set, the company continues to recruit staff for the new location at 675 Connecticut Ave. The company estimates the store will employ about 500 workers, most of them local and new to the company.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic candidates to round out our team before opening day,” said Norwalk Store Manager Emily Gee in a statement. “We’re excited to begin the countdown to July 23, when we can welcome the Norwalk community through our doors.”
Job openings include entry-level management, customer service, culinary roles, overnight workers and more. Paid training will be at the company’s Harrison, NY store, about 20 miles south on Interstate 95.
In the statement, the company touted its status on Fortune Magazine’s “Top 100 Companies to Work For” list since 1998, most recently coming in #6 in 2024, according to the company.
In its announcement of job opportunities at the Norwalk store, Wegman’s cited competitive pay and benefits, premium pay on Sundays and holidays, tuition assistance, and flexible scheduling as reasons cited by employees for working for the company.
